At first, new slaves feel exposed. Some never adjust. Weather can be a problem. Many slaves find that being naked all the time is a positive experience because people seldom look beyond the surface. Girls learn to hide themselves in their clothes. New slaves learn that being naked is just as effective. In both cases, nobody sees the person. The free and clothed woman is judged on what she wears, not what she is. The slave is judged for not wearing clothes and not for who she is.
Besides, it saves a lot of sweat in the laundry. I don’t think Mr. Hawks will be washing and ironing!
