Is Terry Hawks suffering from that common and fatal disease, the Caligula Syndrome? If so, Bridget will not survive six months. Mr. Hawks will also suffer--he's sending Bridget through ECC's nursing program so that he has someone reliable to care for him when his family history catches up to him. Instead of a loyal and well-trained nurse, Mr. Hawks may find himself destitute and in a state-run warehouse for the bed-ridden elderly somewhere around the half-century mark. It's his life and free citizens can do what they want within the law. Mr. Hawks won't be breaking any laws if he spits Bridget himself--except the natural laws of survival. Can he trust Bridget with his life when Terry Hawks is helpless? If not, nurses can have their fun and take and easy exit from this vale of tears.

Many owners are brutal with their slaves because the owners realize how vulnerable to the slave they are. It takes more than mere brutality to keep a slave from thinking of rebellion--but brutality is one route. Caligula Syndrome victims manage to alienate everyone around them to the point were the good riddance factor kicks in.

The Caligula Syndrome is one sign of incepent senility, too.
